Tuacahn Center for the Arts

Ivins, UT

Set in a pristine canyon and surrounded on three sides by 1,500-foot red cliffs, Tuacahn Center for the Arts is a benchmark project for Layton.

Tuacahn includes a 2,000-seat, state-of-the-art outdoor amphitheater and a performing arts focused charter high school. Features of the project include a 330-seat indoor auditorium, a black box theater, a dance studio, a recital hall and numerous practice rooms. Fans of live theater come from across the nation to enjoy Taucahn's top-rated performances and dramatic views.

Environmental sensitivity was a critical issue for this project. The road to the facility is part of a protected habitat for an endangered species, the Desert Tortoise. To minimize environmental impact, Layton developed a comprehensive site access plan and utilized a full-time biologist who was responsible for monitoring all activities.

Layton was able to value engineer $2 million off the facility’s price through careful planning and extensive coordination with the owner. Photos courtesy of Tuacahn
